About Amplified Leicester goes green

Last October the Vision2020 Conference created eight Wishlists for Leicester and Leicestershire in the coming decade.  Read the Wishlists at www.vision2020.org.uk

The Green Spaces Wishlist has inspired several exciting projects across the city. Amplified Leicester makes  its own contribution with three green talks and a chance to get your hands dirty when you ‘Trade Your Surplus’.

Our first Amplified Leicester Green Event will be a panel discussion convened by Andrew Reeves of Transition Leicester, with guests Mark Shearer from Project Dirt and Groundwork's  Paul Howgill.

Drawing on the experience of community-led local food projects in Leicester and beyond, the panel will discuss recent moves to rebuild urban communities around the issues of local food production, sustainability and community resilience.  They will talk about opportunities to transform unused urban space into productive community gardens and how to share learning and inspiration through online networks.

The panel includes:

Andrew Reeves is a member of the Transition Leicester www.transitionleicester.org.uk steering group and is passionate about harvesting ideas for great community projects and making them happen in his local area. He knows the whereabouts of much of Leicester’s wild fruit and has a larder stocked with local (scrumped) apple juice made with Transition Leicester’s very own Apple Press.

Mark Shearer, a chartered surveyor by trade, who set up Project Dirt www.projectdirt.com in his spare time during 2008. Project Dirt, often referred to as “London’s Green Facebook” has grown to be the city’s largest and most active green network. It accommodates 500+ projects and almost 4,000 members as well as a number of LAs and company initiatives. Follow Project Dirt on Twitter @projectdirt

Paul Howgill, allotment guru at Groundwork Leicester. Paul works with Groundwork Leicester and Leicestershire and has a intimate knowledge of the local allotment scene. He brings a Leicester focus to the discussion.

This talk is part of a series of monthly talks and conversations at Phoenix Square organised by Amplified Leicester, De Montfort University. The talks start at 7pm and last for one hour.
